Al-Qabs School was established since 1978 by the Association within the
Authorization of teaching blind students from Kindergarten till the twelfth
grade. Located in El- Bireh City, AlShurafa block.
Al-Qabs School begins the Educational process by hiring six
professional teachers, teaching only four classes in a very small rented
department in El- Bireh City. Having a great reputation meant more students,
large places, more classes, and finally recruiting more teachers, therefore the
Association moved towards constructing a proper building for blinds that
includes Al-Qabs Schools, Hostels, kitchens, but still the Association didn’t
manage to absorb the large numbers of the students so another floor was built
that was funded by the Islamic Bank for development –Jaddah. However the
building is divided into the followings: the grand floor was designed for the
maintenance section, kitchen, dinning room, the school and finally the
administrative board, while the internal dormitory is in the first floor.
The school consists of the followings:
1- School Administration.
2- Teaching Stuff.
3- Male And Female Students.
4- Curriculum.
5- Supportive Methods.
6-School Bus Transportation.
School Administration.
The school administration is in charge of the school, dormitory. Miss
Suha Affuneh headed and supervised on the whole educational and housekeepers
stuff, Printing Section, Library, kitchen, daily expenses of the school.
Teaching Stuff.
The teaching stuff consists of 14 members, with great potential
qualifications, holders of B. A. degrees, besides having courses and
trainings on the Braille machines being explored to different methodologies
in teaching and being interacting with blind kids from different ages.
Regular supervising and evaluations visits from the Ministry of Education
specialists took place to direct and encourage the teaching process. Teachers
also take many courses on rehabilitation that are held by the Ministry
annually. Finally the stuff seeks to create very efficient educational
methods to assess
the educational process.
Male And Female Students.
The school receives male and female blind students whom suffer from
complete blindness or poor eyesight i.e. those who can't attend regular
private or public schools.
Students from various places in the West Bank are regulated into 11 classes
starting from Kindergarten till the 11grade School. Strict regulations are
followed by the school where boys attend till the 9th grade while girls
continue till the 11th grade. The estimated number of the students both
gender is 80 students.
The registration usually goes through a restricted process starting from
filling the registration form then the Association transfers the form to the
Ministry of Higher Education and Education and Ministry of Social Affairs.
Besides that to have the Association approval the student should make regular
medical checkups to have the chance to be diagnosed and reported by Doctors
about the student condition.
The Association never gets paid for the services it provides such as
dormitory, feeding, clothing and teaching or even transportations.
The Association provides a worm hostel for students living outside Ramallah
or Al-Bireh city, supervisors take care of the students. While those whom
live in Ramallah the Association bring them and take them from the school by
the Bus. Each student can visit his family every weekend.
Curriculum.
The school have been adopted the same curriculum taught in the public
schools. The mainly difference is the books for blind is printed in the
Braille's System to facilitate the teaching process.
Supportive Methods.
Several supportive methods have been conducted to facilitate the teaching
process for blind people such as magnifiers glass, T.V screens, lenses, and
computers. However these methods are considered very essential and fundamental
for the teaching purposes for several reasons, first blind students can only
use the Braille typing machines. In addition it gives chances for those whom
suffer from poor eyesight to read by using the magnifiers to enlarge the
letters, words etc for reading or writing skills.
These devices are so expensive therefore the Association seeks for
fundraisings from different parties, people, for purchasing purposes.
School Bus Transportation.
The school bought a Ford bus since 1993 that
accommodates only 10 passengers. This was bought for the sake of bringing and
taking the students, the employees from their homes. This is a free service
that the Association never gets paid for.
Recently the Association is seeking to purchase a new bus school that can hold
large numbers of passengers.
